Pros

- Support from fellow BHMs, experiencing the same challenges. - Free lunch 1x per week - Decent pay

Cons

Burnout: - I applied to this job because of the advertised focus on “work-life balance & putting people first”. I have been in the field for several years & have worked in many fast-paced environments. I have never felt more burnt out and depleted than I did working for this company. Your day is filled with sessions, meetings during your lunch, double documentation (you have to document in 2 EHRs), and “connecting with your clinic” (required socializing with doctors to get referrals). - You meet with patients monthly in this model, after 1 year of working for the company, I met with over 350 patients. It is extremely hard to keep track of patients and provide meaningful care. - When I spoke out about burnout, I was either shamed for bringing up the topic or told I needed to “care less” about my patients to make this model work. - I wanted to leave this job after 3 weeks but was unable to due to a 1-year sign-on contract, provided to all BHMs. Leadership: - This was the most toxic company I have ever worked for. In my experience, there was a severe lack of professionalism from leadership. Members from HQ attempt to connect with the BHMs through dinners and training events but have no idea how the day-to-day of a BHM feels. Unfortunately, many managers & leadership members are proficient in gaslighting. - Despite what they advertise, this company is numbers & money-focused. You are faced with micromanaging or punitive interactions if you are not meeting your numbers. Managers in the field push for numbers because they receive bonuses based on their BHM's success. Managers at this company do not have any patient-facing interactions & also do not understand the daily stress of a BHM. - The company is constantly changing protocols & expectations. I understand that this is a developing company but these changes were impossible to keep up with, not to mention my manager never had any idea what was going on or how to support us. - More than one manager consistently & openly talks badly about their staff to other staff. Several managers at this company label and name-call their employees. Not to mention, inappropriate comments were made to me about my appearance and gender. Several BHMs, including myself, have made reports of this. Unfortunately, HQ has been aware of these issues and have not made any changes to address this inappropriate behavior. - Leadership promises “free clinical supervision” but does not have an active LCSW supervisor in the state of Colorado.

Pros

EvolvedMD is doing things radically different than any other behavioral health agency that I've worked at. The collaborative care model allows clinicians to work alongside PCPs to treat the whole person. Our patients are getting better faster as a result. EvolvedMD also cares about their clinicians and promotes self-care. The leadership team does a great time staying connected to the people in the field and everyone's values/feedback is considered. I love working here so much and never thought that I would get to have such a fun and rich work culture in this field but am SO happy that I do at evolvedMD!

Cons

Days can stay busy but to me, busy is good!

Pros

* Week long paid winter break over Christmas * Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Schedule * My practice team is amazing * Free clinical supervision hours * Benefits are decent (but not always well explained or understood) *Eric and Steve are great! The best CEOs I have ever had the pleasure of working for. Eric will come out to the clinic sometimes and that really makes me feel like I matter to him.

Cons

* VERY corporate and significantly less employee focused than indicated during the interview process. - After the first 3 months in the clinic, the pressure to make more and more money and see more and more patients, requires BHMs to sacrifice lunch hours and staying late for charting since back-to-back patients, or talking to doctors to drive more patients, do not allow for flexibility of charting between appointments. The new model is not as helpful for those of us with large caseloads when our clinical managers are not supportive. Conversations with my peers, many admit to not being truthful about their experience with the new model out of fear of rocking the boat. * The final statement above brings me to psychological safety. The psychological safety concept has been forced down our throat but even when we feel like we have a good relationship with our manager, or even leadership, I do not feel like I have the flexibility to speak up because on the surface everyone else seems to be bought in. Then we have a happy hour where we spend so much time talking about how ridiculous this is and how forced the concept seems when the actions do not match the words. Sometimes doing and saying more is not the answer to the problem. *Some "Leadership" aka VP are mostly out of touch and self-serving. There is a perception that they feel like they are what makes this company work and so they deserve a level of respect that has not been earned because of their title. The fake front put on at employee events is more offensive than supportive. (Another shared opinion often discussed at happy hours) *The "People Team" aka HR can be very condescending and unhelpful when you ask for something they do not understand, even when they should understand since it was related to benefits offered by their department.

Hello from, Erik Osland, Co-CEO, Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for highlighting your experience here at evolvedMD. Appreciate your trust in both me and Steve and believe you understand how passionate we are about this company and the people we serve (including, above all, our employees). With that, hope you also believe in the team and culture we’ve developed since 2017. While you mentioned many issues and topics above, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to address them all in this forum but wanted to make a few things clear: 1. Corporate Culture – As we have grown to nearly 200 employees, yes, we have gotten more “corporate”. This is the natural evolution of companies, and we believe we have managed this change with more intention, empathy, and direction than any other company in our category. More process, rigor, and expectations are all signs of a healthy culture, not a bad one. 2. Balance vs. Burnout – We have always been and will continue to be committed to balance over burnout. In fact, the new model you reference was specifically designed to ensure that our clinicians are given an 8-5 schedule that allows for patient care, administrative tasks, and self-care. Our “target” for full time employees is 5 hours per day (25 hrs/wk) of direct clinical face to face time with patients, which allows on average, 3 hours per day of non-patient facing time. No single evolvedMD clinician has averaged over 6 hours per day of direct patient facing time in the last 12 months. 3. Psychological Safety – Psychological Safety is the cornerstone of our culture, so it saddens me to hear you feel like you were not heard or that you didn’t feel safe sharing those concerns. We continue to develop our managers to ensure they foster an inclusive environment; we also allow employees to provide anonymous feedback via quarterly pulse survey to ensure all employees have a comfortable format to express their views. While we may not fully align with your feedback, we want to thank you for taking the time to share and acknowledge your experience. Psychological safety is not about agreement but rather about having a space to voice concerns and it is always our top priority to learn from our employees on how we can do better. For that, we appreciate your willingness to share. We are in a business of improving lives, and you are an integral part of that – so thank you. We want our team to have the ability to share feedback or ask questions to leadership and, while we may not be able to make every change requested, we always listen and will try to do our best to explain why we can or cannot do something. With that, I would love to discuss this further, if you are willing, so we can grow as leaders and as an organization. You know where to find me if you want to talk further.
