Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Friday, September 15, and ends on Sunday, October 15. The month recognizes and celebrates the many contributions, diverse cultures, and histories of people of Latin American heritage living in the U.S. 84 Lumber is proud to highlight one of their own and one of the many outstanding associates of different backgrounds who have achieved success and continue to push the industry and the 84 Lumber company forward. How does your heritage influence who you are today? I am from Caracas, the capital and largest city of Venezuela. I was raised with good values at home, good discipline through sports, and a focus on education, which provided a foundation of determination and respect. From an early age, I understood the importance of putting your whole self into everything you do. My background also cultivated a willingness to help anyone who needs it, and an eagerness to listen, learn, and understand the importance of teamwork. 84 Lumber’s passion for people aligns perfectly with my values and that is what makes me proud of being a part of this company. 84 Lumber, the nation's largest privately held building materials supplier, has donated $15,000 to the Mountaineer Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, to shine a spotlight on Hunger Awareness Month [September 2023]. As the presenting sponsor of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, which is being harvested from West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest, 84 Lumber has delivered an early Christmas gift to families in Randolph County. Every year since 1964, a different national forest has been selected to provide a tree for the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the holiday season. Its nickname, the ‘People's Tree,' reflects the nickname for the White House and the U.S. House of Representatives: the ‘People's House.’ 84 Lumber will be among those tracking the tree's journey from West Virginia to Washington, D.C. On September 20, 84 Lumber Elkins store manager Matt Mcdonie presented Mountaineer Food Bank with a $15,000 check just in time for the holiday season. “As a presenting sponsor of the 2023 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, 84 Lumber is honored to bring an early Christmas gift to the local community,” said Mcdonie. “We are excited that this donation will serve many people right here in Randolph County, especially during this special time of year.” Mountaineer Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, believes in a West Virginia where no one goes to bed hungry – today or tomorrow.

Dollman found his way to 84 Lumber after discovering a family member worked for the company, and, after more than a year in his role, he is happy he did. He says the qualities that he gained through his military experience, such as teamwork, reliability, ownership, and leading by example, are qualities that have helped him succeed at 84 Lumber and why he encourages others to join the company. “At 84 Lumber, veterans play a significant role in the company's success. Their leadership, discipline, and commitment to excellence are qualities that align with 84 Lumber's culture and values,” said 84 Lumber Owner & CEO Maggie Hardy. “When someone retires from the military, they’re typically used to a very structured, hard-working environment where they can grow and move up the ranks. That’s why veterans tend to thrive at 84 Lumber and become some of our most successful associates,” said Hardy. “On the other hand, 84 Lumber absolutely benefits from the hard-working values that our military has learned. These traits aren’t always easy to come by, and we sure do appreciate those who have them.” For those veterans in a similar situation to Dollman who may be seeking a new career, he highly suggests 84 Lumber. “As service members transition from military life whether through separation or retirement, many of us seek new careers to apply our skills in the civilian world,” said Dollman.
