A certified national women’s business enterprise owned by Maggie Hardy, 84 Lumber remains committed to empowering women and creating opportunities for them to thrive across the construction sector. The company is highlighting the stories of three remarkable 84 Lumber associates who represent the wide range of roles available to women in construction: Alexandria Barber, manager trainee at 84 Lumber’s Ballston Spa, New York, store; Isabelle Schroeder, customer sales manager in South Boston; and Allison Young, director of regional accounts for the Western division, based in Denver. “Women in Construction Week is about more than recognition, it’s about visibility, opportunity, and momentum,” said Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing at 84 Lumber. “Supporting women at every stage of their careers strengthens our company and strengthens our industry.”
As the country prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence this July, 84 Lumber is launching its Building America250 campaign, a company-wide tribute honoring the past, present, and future of the industry that built America. A play on the company’s longtime mission of Delivering the American Dream, Building America250 will engage customers, vendor partners, and associates through a series of stories and initiatives throughout the year, commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. “For 70 years, 84 Lumber has supplied the materials and expertise that have helped America build homes, businesses, and communities across this country,” said Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of 84 Lumber. “Building America250 is our way to highlight that legacy and say thank you to those whose hard work and commitment have helped shape the American dream.”
84 Lumber honored two standout associates as winners of its 2025 End-of-Year Team Headquarters (THQ) Awards, recognizing exceptional leadership, innovation, and impact across the organization. The Business Excellence Award, which recognizes an associate who has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills, accomplishments, professional growth, and contributions to 84 Lumber, was awarded to Glenn Mauder, lead learning designer in the training and development department. Mauder joined 84 Lumber in January 2019 as a learning designer and was promoted to his current role in December 2024. In the past year, Mauder played a key role in several major initiatives, including the design, development, and implementation of the advanced window training program, sales reporting resources, and sales coordinator training. The Rising Star Award, which recognizes up-and-coming associates who have made a significant impact on their team, was awarded to Jessica Badstibner, 84 Sign Shop operations manager. Badstibner joined 84 Lumber in April 2023 as a merchandising manager in the merchandising department. She was promoted to her current role in August 2023. Badstibner plays a key role in supporting the Sign Shop’s functions across ordering, receiving, invoicing, inventory, production, delivery, and installs, consistently stepping up to ensure success across every phase of the process.
84 Lumber has donated $10,000 to Veterans Community Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing veteran homelessness. The donation was made during an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show that aired on February 4, 2026.
84 Lumber has opened its newest store in La Mirada, California, in Los Angeles County, continuing the company’s strategic expansion across California and the West. The new location will also serve as a resource for rebuilding and recovery efforts in the Palisades and surrounding communities affected by wildfires, providing critical access to materials as the region works to restore homes and infrastructure.
After 42 years with 84 Lumber, Mitch Wagner is retiring, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond our company. From his start as a manager trainee to Vice President of Purchasing, Mitch helped shape purchasing strategy through decades of growth and change, building trusted vendor relationships and strengthening teams across the organization. Mitch’s impact will be felt for years to come in the partnerships he built, the people he mentored, and the standard he set for thoughtful, people-first leadership. Thank you, Mitch, for 42 remarkable years. Congratulations on a truly well-earned retirement.
84 Lumber, the nation’s largest privately held supplier of building materials, has promoted Dave Rumbaugh to Vice President of Purchasing effective immediately. Rumbaugh built his career at 84 Lumber by working his way through the business and gaining a deep understanding of the company’s operations at every level. He began his career as a manager trainee in North Versailles (0249), was promoted to co-manager in Murrysville (0209), and then served as store manager at the Harmarville location (0273). These early leadership roles provided Rumbaugh with a strong operational foundation and firsthand experience supporting customers and associates. After transitioning into purchasing, Rumbaugh continued to take on increasing responsibility. He spent five years as Lead Buyer for Engineered Wood Products before being promoted to Director of Contract Purchasing, a role he held for more than 12 years under Mitch Wagner. In that position, Rumbaugh played a critical role in managing vendor relationships, contracts, and purchasing strategy across the company. Most recently, Rumbaugh served as Vice President of Fleet and Specialty Purchasing. Over the past two and a half years, he led those functions with stability, accountability, and strong leadership during a key transition period.

Over the past four decades, he helped guide purchasing strategy through significant growth and change, leaving a lasting impact across the company, from the strong vendor relationships he built to the teams he supported every day. Wagner began his career at 84 Lumber as a manager trainee before coming to Team Headquarters to work in inventory management. From there, he transitioned into purchasing and steadily rose through the ranks to Vice President of Purchasing. Throughout his career, he maintained a strong connection to the field and served as a vital link between stores and the purchasing organization. Known for open communication and thoughtful leadership, Wagner consistently listened to the needs of the field to help ensure purchasing decisions supported stores and customers.

Operating since Nov. 5, 2025, the door shop, located at 610 Blue Springs Blvd., Georgetown, Texas, marks a significant expansion of 84 Lumber’s manufacturing and service capabilities in Central Texas. Spanning 85,000 square feet, the new door shop is designed to support the growing needs of single-family home builders and multifamily construction projects throughout the greater Austin metro and surrounding counties. The shop will offer a full line of Masonite interior doors along with Therma-Tru exterior doors, providing customers with an extensive selection backed by 84 Lumber’s industry-leading services.
