This last year, we have witnessed a massive public response to the impacts of overt and systemic racism in America. Large-scale protests in major cities regarding the senseless deaths of minority men and women are happening worldwide. These protests reflect the pain, anger, and trauma of generations of oppression and racially-motivated violence, particularly against members of the black community. As we watch the news and social media with heavy hearts, we are affected. While all of us try to process our emotions through these appalling events, it is important that we all recognize the importance of a zero-tolerance policy and make our voices heard against microaggressions, prejudices, and inequality.
