Aiven is proud and humbled to announce that we raised another $210M in Series D funding in May! 🎉🦀 Led by Eurazeo and joined by BlackRock as well as existing investors IVP, Atomico and Earlybird Venture Capital, World Innovation Lab (WiL) and Salesforce Ventures, the round brings Aiven to a valuation of $3B. Since our last Series C extension round in October 2021, we’ve increased our headcount by more than 65%. With the new funding, we aim to double the current number of employees in 2022 and continue our international expansion. However, a significant portion will contribute to the launching of our new global sustainability and social impact program. We want to enable collective action within the Aiven community to build more sustainable applications in the cloud. We are grateful to our customers, partners, our growing team and our investors for their support and tireless dedication to building Aiven — we wouldn’t be here without all of you.

But in the bigger picture it's actually super important for the whole ecosystem. 🐠 At Aiven, we want to support our employees in their endeavours, and also contribute to society as a whole. We have a scheme called the "Plankton Program" that allows employees to claim compensation for the time they spend on open source activities outside of work. Many of our employees make open source contributions at work, on our own projects or on the upstream projects or other industry tools - and those are during work time of course. The Plankton Program allows us to support and recognise the extra work and small improvements to the ecosystem that our employees are making outside of what is required of them.
