The urologists at Archbold Urology recently performed a cutting-edge procedure that was the first of its kind in South Georgia. The procedure is known as a holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. This procedure is the latest innovation in urologic laser technology.
The First Bank recently presented Archbold Memorial with a generous $62,500 donation through the Georgia HEART Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program. The program helps rural and critical access hospitals increase their funding and ability to provide health care needs for their communities.
The Archbold Auxiliary has given the Archbold Foundation their remaining pledge gift of $50,000 for the John B. and Elizabeth V. Wight Inpatient Hospice Center at Archbold Memorial. The Archbold Auxiliary gave a total of $250,000 towards the development and upkeep of the center. The Auxiliary was able to raise funds through a variety of fundraisers hosted at the hospital throughout the year, as well as Archbold Gift Shop sales.

The Joint Commission’s Maternal Levels of Care (MLC) Verification program, offered in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), has named Archbold Memorial in Thomasville as a Level II maternal care verified facility.
Archbold general and bariatric surgeon Katie Hanisee, MD, FACS, FASMBS, recently celebrated her 500th da Vinci robotic surgery. Archbold launched its advanced robotic surgery program in 2011 and was the first hospital in the region to acquire the da Vinci Xi Surgical System in 2017. “The robotic surgical program here at Archbold has allowed us to be on the forefront of minimally invasive surgical procedures,” said Dr. Hanisee. “We have been able to establish better outcomes and treatment options for patients in our community.”

With kidney stone cases on the rise, Archbold Urology recognized the urgent need to offer another option for patients to receive prompt diagnosis and treatment. Beginning August 1, patients experiencing kidney stone symptoms may visit Archbold Urology’s kidney stone walk-in clinic or call their kidney stone hotline after hours. The clinic is located at Archbold Urology’s office at 100 Mimosa Drive, Floor 2 in Thomasville and will be open Monday through Friday, from 8am to 3:30pm. The kidney stone hotline will be available after hours.
