A Message From Joe Woody, CEO - JP Morgan Healthcare Conference January 24, 2019 "...Supporting our organic growth strategy will always be a focus on costs – we’re well underway in the process of right-sizing costs to support our more streamlined business – and executing smart M&A. Our 2018 acquisition of Game Ready was a perfect example of a target that met all of our strategic objectives, including accelerating sales growth and expanding our non-opioid pain portfolio. We see a robust M&A portfolio and are constantly evaluating potential assets of various sizes. Overall, it’s been a great opportunity to reflect back on 2018 and the progress we’ve made, but I’m even more excited about 2019 and the years ahead. We are off to a solid start this year, and I look forward to seeing these critical initiatives and strategic investments – as well as those to come – pave the way for our continued success."
Japan Digestive Health Team Gives Back to The Community In December, team members of our Digestive Health group in Japan joined together to make the holidays a little brighter for a special group of children and their families. TACKLING OPIOID ABUSE WITH INNOVATION Opioid abuse has been growing at alarming rates, and the statistics are startling: According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), every day, more than 115 people in the U.S. alone die after overdosing on opioids. The opioid epidemic has become a serious national crisis with far-reaching effects to public health, as well as social and economic welfare. Recognizing the severity of this crisis, in May, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a challenge to medical device developers to come up with innovative solutions to detect, treat and prevent opioid addiction and treat pain. In all, the FDA received more than 250 applications from medical device developers. Avanos was selected as one of only eight applicants to work directly with the FDA to accelerate the development and expedite marketing application review for our pain therapy device.
