Carolina Handling Offers Lean Consulting to Customers
Carolna Handling broke ground on June 20, 2024, for a new regional facility at Speedway Industrial & Technology Park in Pickens County, South Carolina. Scheduled to open in spring 2025, the new building will consolidate Upstate operations of the Charlotte, NC-based intralogistics company, bringing together the warehouse and office space from four area facilities under one roof.
Carolina Handling has broken ground on a new 267,000-square-foot facility in Pickens County, South Carolina that will consolidate operations of our four Upstate South Carolina locations under one roof. The new regional facility at Speedway Industrial & Technology Park will feature 237,000 square feet of warehouse space to accommodate technician bays for new, rental and renewed equipment, as well as parts, distribution and logistics operations. Another 30,000 square feet will house offices, meeting and training space and a customer experience center. The facility in Easley is scheduled to open in spring 2025.

Joe Perkins, our EVP of Operations talks about careers in Supply Chain. At Carolina Handling, our focus is helping customers optimize their manufacturing, picking, packing and shipping operations and create higher levels of service for their end users. We consult with companies on how they can maximize operational capabilities and what equipment they can use to do that. And we identify inefficiencies and process gaps to help them create standards that remove waste. As labor shortages continue, companies are turning to automation equipment and systems to optimize operations, eliminate wasteful steps and allocate the resources they have correctly. When our customers seek to automate a process, 99 percent of the time it is not to eliminate a role. Oftentimes it creates a unique role within the facility. Another huge indicator of a positive supply chain forecast is private warehouse construction. For every warehouse that goes under construction, it pushes products and services sold and supported by the material handling industry. Private warehouse construction in the U.S. has grown from $7.05 billion in 2012 to $61.5 billion in 2022. Construction is expected to slow slightly in early 2024, followed by a rebound in 2025. Presently in our market—North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida’s panhandle— there is 110 million square feet of warehouse space being developed, with 370 million more proposed. And e-commerce is driving a ton of that development.
Carolina Handling is assisting workforce development efforts at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, North Carolina, with the donation of three forklifts to the school’s Building Bridges program.
For the third year in a row, Carolina Handling has been recognized by the industry trade association for its excellence in customer service, supplier relationships, associate training and community involvement. Award recipients must satisfy a rigorous set of criteria with less than 10 percent of MHEDA’s nearly 600 members earning the award. “The MVP Award recognizes the best-of-the-best in our industry and is displayed with honor,” said 2023 MHEDA Chairman John L. Gelsimino, President of All Lift Service Co. Inc. in Willoughby, Ohio. “We appreciate the dedication to MHEDA and to being a leader in this great industry that we are so blessed to be in.” To qualify for the annual MVP Award, companies are required to provide evidence of their commitment to their partners in business including their employees, customers and suppliers.
