Crush Malaria. Because we can.
“No one ever tells you how hard it is to give birth and become a mother, and to live a married life with your husband and new family,” says Grace Okiki, who volunteers for a local care group in the village of Kaluoch, in Western Kenya. “It can be so hard. And you’re so young.” Grace’s care group is supported by CRS through the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. The groups help mothers teach fellow mothers key principles, like how a child develops in the womb, how to play with a newborn, how to stimulate young minds and how to nourish growing babies.

A great piece in The New York Times about our savings and lending program in Central African Republic. These savings groups can make a substantial difference for people, especially women, in incredibly difficult circumstances. They provide critical opportunities to some of the world’s poorest communities where access to formal financial institutions is nearly impossible.

CRS 75th Anniversary: The Story of Us
At CRS, we know that a child’s playtime is crucial for their development -- especially in the first 1,000 days. That’s why we have THRIVE. A program focused on teaching mothers, with young children, skills and techniques to empower their growing babies. Pictured here is baby Shakirah who contracted cerebral malaria which left her fully paralyzed. Toys like the car her mother made are helping Shakirah with mobility.
