Juneteenth offers a chance for education and reflection. It’s a time to learn from our history and mark progress but know there is still work to be done. In honor of Juneteenth, we observe Wednesday, June 19, 2024, as an official bank holiday and sponsor meaningful community events and celebrations with our nonprofit partners. By working toward a world where everyone is seen, heard and respected, we are helping those we serve be ready for the best possible tomorrow. Learn more about our involvement in community events commemorating Juneteenth at the link below.
A culture of pride is a culture of caring. Hear from our colleagues about how they bring their whole selves to work each day and how volunteerism helps to uplift the LGBTQ+ community.
We came together at Queens Night Market in NYC on June 1 to celebrate love, inclusion and the vibrant spirit of community during Pride Month. See how we shared our culture of pride with attendees!

In recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month, we've launched our annual Move for Mental Health step challenge. This walking challenge gives our colleagues time to focus on their wellbeing, while also supporting the wellbeing of others through our new corporate partner, Mental Health America. If 2,500 colleagues participate in the challenge, Citizens will donate $30,000 to the nation's leading national nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of mental health, wellbeing and illness prevention. Operating nationally and in communities across the country, Mental Health America advocates for closing the mental health equity gap while increasing nationwide awareness and understanding through public education, direct services, tools, and research. We’re proud to be honored by Mental Health America with a gold level certification for their Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health. With an overall score was 84% (compared to the average employer score of 36%), we’re committed to providing ongoing conversations and resources so our colleagues can bring their whole selves to work. Learn about our mental health benefits below.
Citizens is proud to recognize and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander visionaries, who drive influences for our collective future through innovation. Kirthika Parmeswaran is paving a path of accessibility for mothers experiencing postpartum depression. With her initiative, Vital Start Health, she’s trailblazing work in a critical discipline and, best of all, sharing her best practices and key insights to empower other innovators for success.
As we reflect on inclusion and innovation this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we understand the two are intrinsically linked. They are powerful drivers in our communities. We are proud to share our colleagues' perspectives on how inclusion and innovation go hand in hand, especially when it comes to building the workforce of the future.
Citizenship is at the heart of who we are, rooted in the belief that when people and communities reach their potential, we all thrive. This week, Citizens and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) announced the establishment of the first-ever “Citizens Helping Citizens” Scholarship to build accessible pathways, while providing opportunities of cultural awareness, understanding, & leadership nationally for high school students who are pursing postsecondary education. The program provides $50k in scholarship to 10 high school students entering a 2 or a 4-year college, university, or trade school in the fall of 2024, ensuring students have the proper resources and knowledge to help them reach their full potential. “Coming together with UNCF to launch the Citizens Helping Citizens Scholarship allows us to accelerate our commitment in building a more inclusive future to meet the ever-changing needs of our young people,” said Yvette Vargas, Head of Development at Citizens. “We're delighted to invest into the next generation of students by providing access to education, which fuels continuous learning, skills development, and professional aspirations.” The ongoing partnership between Citizens and UNCF has provided value beyond the scholarship, with key investments, mentorship, and workforce development initiatives for students from Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). Share with the qualifying high school seniors in your network. Applications are due 5p EST on 5/13/24.
