February 1 marks the start of Black History Month. The 2025 Black History Month theme is African Americans and Labor. As described by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), this year’s theme “focuses on the various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black people. Indeed, work is at the very center of much of Black history and culture…The 2025 Black History Month theme, “African Americans and Labor,” sets out to highlight and celebrate the potent impact of this work.” The White House issued a proclamation to recognize February 2025 as National Black History Month “to celebrate the contributions of so many black American patriots who have indelibly shaped our Nation’s history.” On behalf of the CSG Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, we invite you to read more about this year’s theme at ASALH – The Founders of Black History Month | BLACK HISTORY THEMES by clicking below.
