At Dollar General, our mission of Serving Others is the foundation on which our business was built and continues to operate each and every day. During the holiday season and as an unprecedented year comes to an end, we reflect on our mission and how we have been able to live it out in the communities we proudly serve in 2020.

Dollar General’s annual community giving campaign set a new company record in 2020 with over 10,000 employees joining together to pledge more than $2.9 million to help our co-workers, neighbors, and communities! We are proud of how our DG Family leaned in to support our mission of Serving Others during this time when so many could benefit from additional hope and help. The generous funds raised during the campaign will support DG’s Employee Assistance Foundation, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation as well as charities across our hometown communities.

This week’s featured act of DG Kindness is from Cassie Wagoner from District 740 in North Central and Western Kansas! Cassie heard Superior First United Methodist Church could not open their doors unless they could provide masks for every attendee. She jumped into action and purchased a generous amount of PPE supplies and sanitizer so worship could resume. In the true spirit of Serving Others, Cassie spent three weekends sewing 100 masks in different sizes to make sure children and adults could attend service.

Every day, we hear stories of our DG family leading with compassion and kindness. To celebrate these moments, we launched the DG Kindness campaign. This week’s featured act of DG Kindness is from Breanna Louden from Store #04365 in Lake Butler, Florida! Two of the store’s daily shoppers, Josh and Shannon, recently had a baby. The baby was premature, and the family was not quite prepared for her early arrival. Breanna struck up a conversation with Josh and they swooned over pictures of baby Victoria. In the true spirit of Serving Others, Breanna came in the next day with a bag of preemie and newborn baby clothes to donate to the family. Now every day when Josh and Shannon visit the store, Breanna and her team members are excited to hear updates about baby Victoria.
