Self-care and its importance to racial justice was the focus at a recent internal discussion where employees from across the EmblemHealth family of companies came together. The event was led by Rise, our employee resource group committed to increasing enterprisewide engagement and inclusion for people of color, to effectively impact the communities we serve. Guest speakers were Bre Mitchell, founder of Brown Girl Self-Care and Malik Willoughby, CPRP, founder of the Mind, Body and Universal Balance Empowerment Institute.
Post-COVID-19 health care trends were the topic of discussion at our recent health care innovation sandbox event. Employees from across the family of companies shared their views on how to best support each other and the communities we serve as health care needs evolve. The EmblemHealth family of companies recently hosted an internal discussion on how we can support our Asian American communities against acts of violence and prejudice. During the event, EmblemHealth President & CEO Karen Ignagni spoke with New York City Police Department (NYPD) Inspector Tommy Ng, who leads the NYPD’s Asian Hate Crimes Task Force. We also heard from employees on how to support colleagues, members, and patients in our Asian communities. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we invited our employees to join our members and patients in a special digital journey called “31 Days of Mental Fitness.” Each day, participants receive exclusive content with mental health tips, information, and resources — like EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care Meditation and Yoga instructor, Jen, demonstrating a calming breathing technique.
