A U.S. Army veteran paratrooper and resident of Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno, Leroy celebrated his 91st birthday in May. To celebrate, Jack Houk, a PTA with EmpowerMe Wellness and a U.S. Air Force veteran, shared with Leroy a puzzle that he had received from his father Jack Houk, a U.S. Navy vet. Leroy worked diligently on it — a task which took him several months! He then coordinated with the IVHM staff and volunteers at the community's wood shop to frame the puzzle and hang it outside his room for all to enjoy. Great job, Leroy! This shows what a little patience, hard work, and dedication can do, no matter your age!
The EmpowerMe team at Highgrove at Tate's Creek senior living brought summer fun to the community during their annual Walker Wash! As one resident said, “It’s the event of the year!” The team enjoyed snow cones, water fun, and, of course, laughs as we assisted residents in cleaning their walkers and other assistive devices!
EmpowerMe Wellness was all over the big cornhole tournament held recently at Vitalia North Olmsted senior living community outside of Cleveland, OH! Designed to bring together community residents, staff, and EmpowerMe team members, the event was a huge success, if only measured by the smiles on everyone's faces!
Each year, EmpowerMe focuses in on gait speed, which is a key predictor of health in seniors. As part of our March Mania gait speed assessment drive, our team at Atria Golden Creek — Nikki, Rachel, Ruben, and Mike — held a huge blowout assessment event, conducting fitness testing and education on gait, grip strength, and balance! Nicely done, team!
During a recent Wellness 1:1 between Alyssa and one of her residents, what started as a casual conversation about favorite foods turned into a moment of genuine connection and care. As they talked about family traditions and the comfort foods tied to them, the resident shared a “bucket list” of dishes she had always wanted to try. The next morning, Alyssa showed up with the foods they had talked about! The look on the resident’s face said everything. What could have been an ordinary day became a joyful experience filled with laughter, memories, and the feeling of being truly seen.
Linda's very happy about the benefits of ongoing therapy! With help from Bria (a COTA) and Daisy (a PTA), Linda's overcome multiple obstacles in the past few months, and each time, she comes back to therapy more resilient and ready to work!
Halloween's kind of a big deal at EmpowerMe Wellness! Here, our clinic team at Tiffany Spring Senior Living poses in costume with Lady Liberty!
On Fridays, the residents of Vitalia Stow have happy hour, and this week's theme was a sock hop. Ann — one of EmpowerMe's therapy participants — wasn't sure about her outfit…but then our Clinic Director Karen Chaney walked in wearing a matching outfit! Ann was so happy, she wanted to walk the whole building so everyone could see the "twins"! It was a great moment for Anne, and for Karen!
Jen (an SLP), Guillermo (a PTA), and Mary (an OT) joined in on the Walk to End Alzheimer's that occurred in downtown Crystal Lake, Illinois, this weekend! Cedarhurst of Woodstock had a booth at the event, and EmpowerMe team members turned out to support the cause!
One final Rehab Week photo contest winner — this time from Katie Grant’s team at Dominion Hixson. Thanks, Katie, and thanks to everyone who submitted during our Rehab Week celebration!
