During the heat wave earlier this month, more than 83,500 customers in our ConnectedSolutions program functioned as a virtual power plant. When demand for electricity surged to one of the highest levels we've seen in six years, they stepped up and together shaved the peak by 227 MW. That's enough to power 45,000 homes! 🤯 It’s a powerful example of the innovation and collaboration at work to advance a reliable power grid and sustainable energy future for our customers and communities. A huge thank you to every customer who participated! 👏 😎 Stats ⚡ 227 MW of demand reduced through ConnectedSolutions on July 2 from 5–8 p.m. 🌡️ 127,617 enrolled ConnectedSolutions devices targeted 🏡 83,500+ residential customers participated 🏭 320+ commercial and industrial customers participated 📈 25,850 MW projected peak load ⚡ 25,289.37 MW actual peak load at 7 p.m. on July 2
Big day tomorrow! We're excited to celebrate the opening of a new section of the Massachusetts Central Rail Trail—created through our first-of-its-kind collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation as part of our Sudbury to Hudson Transmission Reliability Project. “Projects like this strengthen the backbone of New England’s electric grid, helping ensure customers have reliable, affordable power today while preparing the system to meet tomorrow’s energy needs. By collaborating closely with DCR, local communities and other project partners, we were able to improve reliability while creating a valuable recreational resource that communities will enjoy for generations,” said our President of Transmission Bill Quinlan. 👀 Stay tuned for highlights from our celebration event, and head to the link in the comments to read more about the project.

📞🗣️ “Hi Mom, it’s me. Did you know that New Hampshire has a Telephone Museum? It’s in Warner, near Mount Kearsarge. Yeah, a bunch of us from Eversource were there volunteering. Painting, cleaning the phones, weeding the garden—I even took apart an old switch board! I know, right? It’s actually really cool, they have everything from hand-cranked telephones to smartphones. Huh? Mom, it could be a lot of things, did you check Bluetooth in Settings? Bluetooth. In Settings. OK, I’ll stop by in a bit. Love ya.”
If you’ve ever remodeled your home, you probably know what it’s like to juggle numerous invoices from contractors and specialists. There’s a truckload of numbers and narratives, and it’s up to you to make sure they agree with what’s in your original contract. It can be daunting, to say the least. Now imagine that you’re at Eversource dealing with hundreds of complicated contracts for dozens of projects across the state—projects that ensure customers have reliable and affordable energy to power their lives. Fortunately, we have people like Victoria Covill, to manage that, and she doesn’t break a sweat.
Throwback Thursday: This time last year, we were breaking ground on our first-of-its kind underground substation in the City of Cambridge. It's come a long way! 🤩 Together with BXP, Inc., the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority (CRA) and the city, here's what we've accomplished so far to meet the rapidly growing demand for energy in Greater Boston while also creating new green space for the community: ✅ Installed eight new utility vaults and 4,000+ linear feet of underground transmission duct bank ✅ Started upgrades to our electric system that will include 350+ feet of new duct bank and three additional utility vaults ✅ Reached a final depth of 120 feet for the future home of the nation’s largest fully underground electric substation 🤝 Thank you to all our neighbors, local businesses, and community organizations for your partnership. The input you provided over years of close collaboration helped to shape this innovative approach and made our project better. We're looking forward to another year of safe, community‑centered progress.
It takes something extra special to get employees volunteering all night in the freezing cold to make snow. ❄️ That something? The 170 athletes competing in the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games. Andy Ouellette and his fellow volunteers start prepping five months out, logging nearly 100 hours to create the man-made magic that makes these games possible.
