With a competition-winning design for a new government workplace and training facility at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, HKS colored outside the lines. Our Health practice has been hard at work advising emergency departments on how to boost their pandemic response preparedness with insights from the COVID-19 pandemic. Director of Health Jason Schroer and Health Research Lead Deborah Wingler recently spoke to Healthcare Design Magazine on what emergency departments can do now to prepare for the future. “We know that the ED environment is chaotic, at best,” Deborah said. “So we need to make sure that the individuals who serve and provide care have the space they need to do that and do that well.” #health #design

They say sport is an equalizer. But in low-income and underserved communities, that isn't always the case. A coalition of public, private, and civic leaders is working to level the playing field in Atlanta. The StationSoccer initiative builds soccer fields on the Atlanta transit system's underutilized spaces and vacant land. Citizen HKS, our public design initiative, teamed up with the nonprofit Soccer in the Streets and the Atlanta City Studio to master plan a cohesive vision and design some of these fields.
