Today is National Philanthropy Day! The day was first organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s and the first official events were held in 1986 after President Reagan signed the official NPD proclamation. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and the impact it has had. We are grateful for our staff who do amazing philanthropic work every day!

Sunday, November 5th is International Volunteer Manager Day! Together, this group manages over 560 volunteers across the organization: patient companion volunteers, administrative volunteers, Care Takers and Thrift Shoppe volunteers. Last year volunteers contributed over 72,000 hours. Medicare requires hospice volunteers. According to the Medicare Conditions of Participation for hospice care, at least five percent of all patient care delivered by staff must be matched with patient care provided by volunteers. Hospice volunteers provide support services and offer specialized skills outside the scope of professional staff expertise. Volunteers are unpaid staff who focus on specific needs and offer the gift of time and company. We’re always in need of volunteers in every community. If you know someone who would be a good fit, send them to our website to submit a volunteer application.
