It’s International Women in Engineering Day, a time to highlight women in the engineering field! To celebrate, we asked Erin (Hughes) Roberts, PE, CFM, a Senior Engineer in our Forensic Architecture & Engineering practice, about her professional experience. She had the following to share: “Some of the stereotypical 'female' traits I possess make me successful as an engineer - creativity to come up with unique solutions to complex problems, the ability to empathize with others, and a collaborative mindset. I am so grateful for all the women who came before me and paved the way for me to pursue a career as a woman in engineering. Part of my purpose as a female engineer is to empower young ladies to pursue similar opportunities. I never want to be the only woman in the room.” To learn more about Erin, you can view her extended web bio at: https://lnkd.in/e_yYSGgS

On June 30, 2021, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) outlined several priorities to combat the ever-evolving landscape of financial crimes, including corruption, cybercrime, terrorist financing, and drug trafficking, among others. Companies that integrate these priorities into their AML programs strengthen their governance frameworks, leverage technology and data analytics, and foster a culture of continuous improvement that makes them better prepared to address these emerging risks. In this article, Adil Raza examines the significance of integrating the FinCEN AML Priorities into anti-money laundering (AML) programs and provides step-by-step recommendations to ensure preparedness for regulatory examinations. Today is World Refill Day, a global initiative that shines a light on the urgent need to address the challenge of plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives. We spoke to Kimberly Logue, Associate Vice President in J.S. Held’s Environmental Risk & Compliance group, about the importance of refill initiatives in addressing the issue of plastic waste: “The ongoing global crisis of plastic waste requires solutions beyond traditional recycling. Industry experts estimate that only 9% of plastics produced in the United States are recycled correctly, while the remaining plastic waste piles up in landfills or becomes incinerated. To combat plastic incineration, which accounted for 5.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2015, refill initiatives are essential to encourage product reusability and increase the long-term use desirability of packaging on a global scale. Companies are currently developing and testing reuse and refill solutions that increase sustainability without decreasing value to customers. For example, one startup company in Chile is now offering containers equipped with RFID tags that let consumers earn discounts for each use of reusable containers for rice, detergent, and other common staples. Another startup in the United Kingdom is delivering food in reusable lunchboxes that are collected for reuse.”

We spoke with our own Jessica Eldridge, Senior Vice President and Practice Director of Cyber within J.S. Held’s Forensic Accounting – Insurance Services Practice, about her experience in the tech industry and her thoughts on how we can inspire and encourage more young women to pursue careers in ICT: “Young women today have the power to exude greatness in all aspects of the workforce, but especially in STEAM. I pursued my passion for math and technology and here I am as a Forensic Accountant and Practice Director of Cyber within our division. My advice to young women is to never limit their talent for fear of the unknown, and instead persevere through barriers and challenges that come your way and break through that glass ceiling!” #ICT #STEAM #Technology
