J.S. Held embarked on its diversity and inclusion journey by launching the Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) as its inaugural employee resource group in June of 2022. After its inception, WIN served as a platform for our women colleagues to voice their needs. Their collective request for a mentorship program became the catalyst for our company-wide initiative. The Mentor Connect program, born out of collaboration within WIN, now extends its benefits across all employees, fostering inclusivity throughout the organization. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, our commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond a single observance, resonating in our daily efforts to enhance equal opportunities and foster inclusion. J.S. Held People, Diversity, and Inclusion Program Lead Tricia Estacio emphasizes that “International Women’s Day is more than a single occasion; it’s a daily celebration of strength, resilience, and achievements. We take pride in recognizing the invaluable contributions of our women every day of the year.”

As we conclude Black History Month, we honor and celebrate Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander, a pioneering American economist, lawyer, and civil rights advocate who made a profound impact as the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in economics and the second African American woman to receive a Ph.D. in any subject. Breaking barriers, she became the first African American woman to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania’s law school and to be admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar. Throughout her life, she served on numerous boards, committees, and commissions and held office in many local and national organizations. She served on President Truman’s Committee on Human Rights and was appointed chair of the White House Conference on Aging by President Carter. Her enduring impact is reflected in organizations like the Sadie Collective, inspiring African American women to pursue careers in economics and data-driven fields.
