Members of Masonite's Cabrero, Chile plant won the grand prize in the company's 60 Seconds for the Environment Challenge in April. The facility had a 91% participation rate of taking daily actions focused on reducing energy consumption. One of the most impressive actions was labeling the equipment motors with the cost of energy per hour, so operators are now aware of how much energy is saved if they turn off the equipment.

Thirteen are based at the Masonite Innovation Center in West Chicago (pictured below) and in the field, with nine at our headquarters in Tampa, Florida. The Masonite internship program runs 11-weeks. We are excited to see what the group will learn and accomplish this summer!

Masonite announced 8-hours of volunteer time off for salaried employees in 2022 and 450 people used that time to give back in their communities! In May about 30 members from Masonite headquarters spent their day repairing homes that were damaged when Hurricane Ian slammed into Florida.

We are pleased to announce that Katie Shellabarger, CPA has been appointed as Vice President & Chief Accounting Officer. “Katie has been an integral part of our finance and accounting leadership team since joining Masonite four years ago,” said Russ Tiejama, Chief Financial Officer. “Her extensive audit and accounting experience across multiple industries, as well as her strong leadership and deep knowledge of the company, will be invaluable in this new role.” More details are in the press release.

Masonite's Laurel, MS team unpacked and set up 55 computers for the students at Oak Park Elementary and William H. Mason Elementary Schools. The PCs were donated by the company to enable Laurel third graders to prepare for literacy testing. The $25,000 worth of new equipment was funded by our We Help People Walk Through Walls community grant program, and is Masonite's largest donation to date! Oak Park Elementary School Principal Dr. Leander Bridges said the new computers will help students for years to come. “Because now, we are equally competitive with everyone else. We have enough technology access, we have the right tools, we have the right materials. I’m expecting nothing but the best from Oak Park Elementary.”

In the wake of Hurricane Ian in 2022 in Florida, Masonite donated 1,216 doors for people whose homes were damaged by the storm. We partnered with Rebuilding Together this week to host a rebuild and repair day for a family impacted in Southwest Florida. Thirty volunteers from Masonite's headquarters in Tampa pitched in, and even installed a few of our doors!
