Becker’s Hospital Review has released the 2023 edition of its “Great Community Hospitals” list and Marysville-based Memorial Hospital has been named to the list. According to the announcement, the designation from Beckers indicates Memorial was selected because the organization is: * known for clinical excellence, compassionate care, economic impact on their communities, and more. * honored by top ranking and award agencies for their stellar patient outcomes and their performance in specialty care services. * a leader who shows above-and-beyond commitment to their communities. Their expertise helps expand care access to patients who would otherwise face barriers such as cost or distance. The “Great Community Hospitals” list celebrates ten hospitals in Ohio with entities representing communities in Central Ohio, as well as the Cincinnati and Cleveland areas.

Reinforcing its long-standing commitment to patient safety and quality enhancements, Memorial Hospital has announced the organization has earned a prestigious national rating for safe patient care. Memorial Hospital has earned a five-star quality rating in patient care by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) summary star ratings. CMS rates hospitals from one to five stars, based on their safety, efficiency, and patient experience. “Our teams at Memorial are honored to receive the highest possible rating of five stars for quality from CMS,” comments Chip Hubbs, President and CEO of Memorial Health. “Memorial is one of only 483 hospitals in the U.S. to earn this designation. Compared to more than 4,600 other hospitals nationwide, only 10% received five stars. Receiving this highly sought after rating demonstrates the continuation of our reputation as a high-performing healthcare system with caring, expert team members, physicians, and providers.”

The American Heart Association has awarded Memorial Health national Gold Level recognition for its commitments to employee health and well-being, as measured in the Association’s 2022 Workforce Well-being Scorecard™. The Scorecard evaluates factors such as mental health policies, organizational well-being strategies to address burnout, health equity measures, employee financial resources, and more to provide a comprehensive assessment of an organization’s culture of health. 381 organizations completed the Scorecard in 2022, and all organizations were recognized with an achievement level of platinum (9%), gold (45%), silver (32%), bronze (9%), or completer (5%). Debbie Stubbs, Director of the Wellness Center for Memorial Health shares, “Our Wellness Team is honored to be recognized with this Gold Level status from the American Heart Association. We are proud of our wellness programming because we are truly working to change the total health of our organizational team, one employee at a time, while recognizing where they are in their wellness journey. Memorial Health has nominated Tricia Daniels, BSN, RN, CCRN, and Director of Cardiovascular Services, as their nominee for the 2023 Ohio Hospital Association’s (OHA) Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award. The award is presented annually to one Ohio healthcare employee who personifies leadership, reflects the mission and values of his or her organization, routinely performs work in an exemplary manner, and gives back to the community. Heart disease remains as the leading cause of death in the nation, as well as in Union County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state. Tricia has a passion to ensure advanced heart care is accessible to everyone in her community. She first led the clinical team that launched a Level I Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Memorial in 2013, doubling down on her vision as she led the opening of a Level II Lab in 2022. Patients now have access to emergency heart care, with an interventional cardiologist and cardiac team available 24/7. The regional impact is revealed in the numbers – cardiac transfers from Memorial have decreased by a staggering 90% in 2022, resulting in the community having access to advanced heart care, right here in their region. As noted in the nomination, a key component of launching the new Cath Lab services was coordination and training between the Memorial Cath Lab team and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers.
