We're committed to creating a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone can be their authentic self at work. Recognising that each of our people need different support to grow and thrive, is key to reaching our goal. Learn about our Materials Procurement Co-ordinator Paul's journey at Morgan below.
We want everyone at Morgan to feel valued and appreciated. That often starts by better understanding our differences and learning to value them. We are actively supporting a calendar of global awareness days to help build a more caring and understanding culture. Ultimately our goal is to be a more inclusive organisation. Our people work hard to create a safe working environment at Morgan. Our Augusta R&D team recently set a hugely impressive safety record, reaching 20 years of working in the lab with no lost time injuries. This achievement was made possible by the team's positive attitude to safety. Their top feedback being; we put the safety of the lab and of the individuals first, collaborating with others to motivate safety behaviors. We're proud of the team and our other Morgan family members, who care for each other and work hard to keep people safe every day.

Each of us has our own unconscious bias. This bias is created by the associations which we make between social categories and qualities without our conscious awareness, and can impact our judgement. Our own bias impacts the decisions we make in the workplace, even if our genuine intentions are to create a fair status quo. Educating ourselves is a good way to begin addressing this bias, check out the CIPHR's guide to unconscious bias and ways to tackle this in the workplace below.

Creating a working environment where our people feel comfortable to bring their true, authentic selves to work is an important part of creating an inclusive culture at Morgan. We're in the process of launching our very first women's focused Employee Resource Group (ERG) to help to foster this environment at Morgan. We hope that our Women@Morgan group will be the first of many ERGs across our business, allowing us to build employee driven communities within Morgan. Communities that support our people to thrive.

We are committed to operating in an ethical way, using our leadership behaviours and the Morgan Code as principles and policies to guide us in our decision-making. Raising awareness and educating our people on ethics is part of our commitment. This February, we're running our very first Ethics Week across our global sites; spending the week raising awareness of the Morgan Code, celebrating ethics training successes and sharing useful resource with our teams. We're looking forward to engaging with our people, to ensure that we all do business the right way.

We drive improvements in waste reduction and recycling through Kaizen and 6S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain and Safety) activities. We follow the principles of Kaizen, which eliminates waste from overproduction, improves quality, increases efficiency, decreases idle time, and reduces unnecessary activities. 2021 saw waste generation improvements made at several sites, through an increased focus on waste segregation, and by improving waste by category. Through these actions, in 2021 our businesses reduced waste intensity by 3% compared to 2020, with an overall waste generation reduction of 21% (on an absolute basis) compared to 2019.
In December 2021, we were proud to sign up to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). We have now commenced the process of defining targets to align with the SBTi, so that we can reduce our climate impact. SBTi encourages companies to demonstrate climate leadership through the public commitment of Greenhouse Gas reductions... By the nature of our solutions we already support our customers on their low carbon journey. We are delighted to now also bring the focus on climate reduction inhouse to our manufacturing operations. Learn more about SBTi below.

As a leading innovator of products that reduce our customer's emissions, our focus in 2021 was on improving our own energy efficiency, procuring renewable and clean energy sources, and evaluating the replacement of higher-emission fuels with less-carbon-intensive fuels. By the end of 2021, we had lowered greenhouse gas emissions by 38% against 2015 levels and reduced 19% compared to 2020. Our sites are continuing to implement best practice to reduce energy consumption globally, as part of an effort to not only use energy more wisely but to drive down CO2 emissions.
