It’s one thing to care for patients, and it’s another to be a good neighbor. MultiCare employees aim to do both. Earlier this year, MultiCare took that to the next level when 59 employees signed up as Community Champions — a group of dedicated staff who volunteer to represent MultiCare in the community through outreach efforts and event involvement. Showing up is about so much more than simply handing out swag or waving from behind a booth table; it’s about honoring and responding to the various needs of the communities we serve, outside of health care.
After more than 12 years of service to the MultiCare Health System, CEO Bill Robertson will retire on Dec. 31. Bill led our transformation into the region’s largest community-based nonprofit health system by expanding access to care and driving growth through a new mission, strategy and a highly integrated network that includes the Pacific Northwest’s largest behavioral health continuum. We are thankful for Bill's unwavering commitment to the health of the communities we serve. Florence Chang, who serves as president, will assume the role of president and CEO, effective Jan. 1.

Since MultiCare Emergency – Union Gap opened over two months ago, the new neighborhood emergency department has seen 4,300 patients. an average of about 80 per day. Early reports suggest a decrease in patient load at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital's emergency department due to the presence in Union Gap. "It was really exciting to have brand new equipment, and just create the culture that we want the community to see," said De Oca, registered nurse at the emergency department. "And deserve."
