February is Black History Month. To start the month, we are highlighting the first Black-owned insurance company in the United States, African Insurance Company. Established in 1810, African Insurance Company sought to provide security for the African American community. While not affiliated with National Interstate, African Insurance Company holds an important spot in the history of insurance and served as a forerunner of socio-economic change across the industry.
