Our employees helped with the statewide “practice” competition for the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series, serving as proctors, organizers and graders for the day. This dry run lets the state’s 6 -8 graders get a feel of the competition before their local Chapter Competitions are held in February each year. The State of Texas consistently places in the top five at Nationals and has won the national title for MATHCOUNTS three of the last four years. This practice competition is an important part of that achievement. #PapeDawsonVolunteers

Walter Smith, P.E., RPLS, a vice president at Pape-Dawson's North Houston Office, is also a Waller County Commissioner. He spoke to his team about how being a P.E. and R.P.L.S. helps the commissioners court, as well as how engineers and surveyors can appropriately and effectively communicate with commissioners and other county officials to help them make good decisions for the better development of their communities. #PapeDawsonLeadership #Surveying

It’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every nineteen seconds a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer somewhere in the world. Regular screening tests are used to detect breast cancer before it causes any warning signs or symptoms. With early detection, screening tests can find breast cancer when the chances of survival are highest. Show someone you care and encourage them to get regular screenings. #nevergiveup #breastcancer #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

"Austin weighs code changes after data show 80% more structures at flood risk" New data, known as Atlas 14, reveals that “parts of Austin are seeing as much as 3 inches more rain in major storm events” than originally predicted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Pape-Dawson’s managing principal in Austin, Mark Ramseur, P.E., has been involved in building master-planned communities and developing commercial sites throughout Central Texas. Getting good data early during the due diligence phase is key to understanding the impact of these changes on a project. The Domain in Austin is one of the trendiest locations to live, shop, eat, and visit. But getting to a point of completion for projects like the Domain takes time and a lot of team work. In 2018, Pape-Dawson was brought onto this project to help Stonelake Capital Partners with master planning of The Domain South End, a 33-acre portion of mixed-used development space on the Domain property. Challenges included designing new roadway infrastructure, utilities, and easements for serving future development needs, while enabling the existing IBM building on site to function as it has since the 1970’s. To accomplish this, Pape-Dawson re-platted the property and coordinated phased easement recordation and easement vacations across the site. Pape-Dawson is currently working with the City of Austin Government to coordinate the permitting for both current and future needs of the project.

Pape-Dawson’s Houston Vice President of Land Development, Jason Atkinson, had the honor of being a part of Houston Business Journal’s Land Industrial Panel, the final in their 2019 CRE Breakfast Series. Jason and the panel communicated that the market continues to remain strong across the region and the industry’s pros are tackling challenges with ingenuity and creativity. While remaining available sites tend to be complex, Pape-Dawson and our industry partners are working hard together to help clients achieve their goals as cost-efficiently as possible. #CivilEngineers #LandDevelopment #PapeDawsonLeadership
