Alexis McGill Johnson spoke at a press conference with Senate Minority Leader Schumer, Sen. Patty Murray, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, and Guttmacher’s Director of Federal Policy Amy Friedrich-Karnik. I’m so grateful for all these champions’ partnership, and the Action Fund staff and Planned Parenthood supporters who came out at a moment’s notice! The entire press conference focused on the reconciliation bill being a backdoor abortion ban. Shout out to all the Action Fund comms staff driving this narrative across the country. Your work is working!

There are no words for the incredible warrior energy the people displayed on Wednesday at PPFA’s Rally for Patients’ Rights during oral arguments for Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. Alexis McGill Johnson, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood, walking alongside Jen Sandman, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Vice President of Public Policy Litigation & Law, and Nicole Saharsky, Attorney for Planned Parenthood South Atlantic to see this movement getting LOUD. In the face of repression, Planned Parenthood supporters were undaunted and unafraid. Thousands came from up and down the East Coast with justice in their souls and freedom in their hearts.

We are heartbroken to lose the indomitable force that is our former president, Cecile Richards. In her 12 devoted years of service to our organization, she brought us to new heights in our health care, education, and advocacy work. She was the embodiment of “Care, no matter what". As the reproductive freedom movement navigates unchartered territory, we know Cecile would tell us the best way to honor her memory is to suit up (in pink!), link arms, and fight like hell for the health and rights of all people.

Cecile Richards, former Planned Parenthood president and feminist activist, has died

Planned Parenthood’s work is to hold up the humanity of all people and to fight for a world where no person is marginalized or attacked for who they are. Many across our community are reeling from Hamas' horrific attack on Israeli civilians and the humanitarian crisis continuing to unfold in Gaza with the escalation of war. The heaviness is palpable. There is no dispute that millions of lives, families, and communities will forever be devastated. Too many already have been. All people deserve to live a life free from hate, violence and persecution. We must fight the pervasive, ugly, and deadly forces driving antisemitism and Islamophobia — and know that neither of these can be fought in isolation. Words are insufficient. Words will never fully encapsulate the pain, grief, anger and increased fear for their own safety that people are feeling at this moment. But our words, and our actions, hold power. Today, and every day, we must continue to lift each other up and create a world where we can all be free and be seen.

Everyone Deserves to Be Seen
