The New Jersey Hospital Association recognized the achievements of the late Dr. Bipin Patel, chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Saint Peter’s University Hospital and physician-in-chief for The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, at the 2023 Best at the Beach celebration. Dr. Patel’s family accepted the Clinical Excellence Award, presented to Dr. Patel posthumously, at last week’s event in Long Branch, New Jersey. It’s all smiles when Peaches the therapy dog comes to visit! Peaches’ owner Nancy has volunteered with Saint Peter’s since 2010, working with both our Child Life Program and For KEEPs with her therapy dog Sammy. After Sammy’s passing, Nancy recently returned to our program with Peaches to continue spreading positivity across our pediatric units. We are excited to have Nancy back with us and warmly welcome Peaches to our volunteer program!

Dr. Bipin Patel was a much-loved and respected physician, leader, educator and humanitarian. He was the driving force behind the advancement of pediatric care at Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. He was ahead of his time in creating programs for children with autism and the Dorothy B. Hersh Regional Child Protective Center for the care of children affected by abuse and neglect. Today, his name adorns the Dr. Bipin Patel Pavilion on the Saint Peter’s campus, marking a career of service and a life lost far too soon. NJHA presented him its #BestAtTheBeach Clinical Excellence Award posthumously and we’re honored to host his wife Bindu and family to celebrate his life of service.
