We are excited to announce that we have finalized an agreement to acquire Singapore-based global container lessor Falcon Lease Holdings Pte Ltd and its group of companies. This acquisition expands our transportation asset leasing and management services to include global tank container leasing and brings our total operating subsidiary companies to seven.
We’ve got some great news to share about an example of continuous improvement that helps drive our culture! Chicago Freight Car Leasing has won the 2021 ELFA Operations & Technology Excellence (O&TE) Award. This prestigious award is given annually by the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association to recognize organizations that are driving increased business value by successfully implementing a technology innovation project or through other improvements. This recognition puts CFCL in good company, with past O&TE winners including AIG Commercial Asset Finance, Cisco Systems Capital Corporation, and Element Financial Corporation. The 2021 O&TE award is a feather in the cap of members of the CFCL and Sasser Information Technology teams, who partnered for two years beginning in January 2018 to address the limitations caused by using multiple systems to run CFCL’s day-to-day business. Some of these systems were created 15 years ago specifically for CFCL’s business needs while others were third-party systems implemented as recently as 2015. Congratulations to both teams!
Sasser Family Companies is proud to congratulate Bryan Zair, senior vice president and chief legal officer, on being included in the 2021 Crain’s Chicago Business list of Notable General Counsels! This list highlights Chicagoland general counsels whose involvement in civic affairs and/or their generous contributions of pro bono work to nonprofit organizations set them apart from their peers. Bryan was one of just 50 general counsels in the Chicagoland area to be recognized by Crain’s this year. Way to go, Bryan!
Sasser’s charity of the month for June is Shriners Hospital Chicago. Determined to give all children access to specialized pediatric care, the Shriners opened their first hospital 99 years ago. Today the Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system with 22 locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico that is dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, conducting innovative research and offering teaching programs for medical professionals. All care and services are provided regardless of the families’ ability to pay—which is great news for families but comes at a very high cost to the hospitals. Shriners Hospital focuses on providing orthopedic care for children birth-to-18 who suffer from joint disorders, rare bone conditions, neuromuscular disorders and other complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital’s pediatric specialists focus on childhood birth defects like clubfoot and other limb differences. Sasser’s charity of the month for May 2021 is Lurie Children’s Hospital, a nationally ranked pediatric acute care teaching hospital in Chicago and affiliated with Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Each year, a Sasser team member sponsors the charity during a virtual lunch & learn to raise funds for the hospital. Her involvement with the organization began after son experienced a severe health scare and was rushed to the ER at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. He wound up staying in the hospital for five days and was diagnosed as having three different viruses. With the help and support of Lurie Children's, he was able to overcome this near-death experience. We’re thankful to report that her son recovered and is doing well. Our charity of the month program highlights nonprofits that make a positive difference in the lives of the communities where we live and work. Sasser's charity of the month for April 2021 is the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), the nation’s oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to brain tumor education, support, and research. Each year, a Sasser employee heads up a team to participate in the ABTA 5K run held in Chicago. Her involvement with the ABTA began after her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2003. We're thankful to report that the tumor was successfully removed and with the help of the ABTA, he remains healthy and active. Our charity of the month program highlights nonprofit organizations that make a positive difference in the lives of the communities where we live and work.
