Fifty-three years ago today St. Jude Children's Research Hospital opened its doors on a mission to discover cures for childhood cancer and catastrophic diseases. Danny Thomas' goal that no child should die in the dawn of life has been realized to a greater extent than anyone could have imagined in 1962. Childhood cancer survival rates have increased from 20% in the 1960s to 80% today. The survival rate for Acute Lymphoblastic Leiukemia (ALL) has increased from 4% in the 1960s to 94% today.
