Congratulations to Andrew Volpi and Scott Berntsen, who "graduated" on May 2, representing SPHP's inaugural class of Healthcare Emergency Management interns. Pictured with Kwang-Seok Kang, our system-wide emergency management coordinator, Andrew and Scott had the opportunity during their internship to experience first-hand how healthcare is provided in emergency management situations. In addition to developing drills and exercises, they also assisted in infectious disease response planning, and even staffed our Incident Command during the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. Their assistance was invaluable and truly made an impact – thank you both and best wishes as you continue your studies!

I finished my orientation, enjoyed my maternity leave, and came back to function independently at the bedside. I decided to join SPHP because I was ready for a change in patient population. I truly love my job here at Samaritan's ICU; the staff are so supportive of each other and I really feel like part of the team. After my first year of employment, I applied for the Maria College BSN cohort, and am excited to graduate this month! I love the patient population we get here. It’s challenging, but not overwhelming, and we offer a lot of resources and interventions!”

We are grateful for Jeannine's dedication, and we are excited to see where her career takes her! #whyiworkatsphp "Being a physical therapist at St. Peter’s Hospital has been such a thrilling, challenging, and meaningful experience. I have been a PT for over 20 years and have been a part of several different teams over the span of my career. By far, St. Peter’s Hospital has been the most outstanding, well-organized, and exceptional team for whom I am proud to say that I am a part of. What stands out to me is the excellency that I consistently see among staff. I also see strength in the areas of cooperation, communication, and innovation when it comes to patient care. I truly feel that everyone is “there” for the patient. From the house-keepers to the doctors, everyone seems to take an active part in making a difference. Overall, when I walk onto the floor, I feel a positivity that is sometimes or even often difficult to sense when people are so sick. I love every minute of my time at work. For me, it is more a way -of-life than it is a job. My specific department is friendly, open, and warm. My supervisor is always approachable, she makes you feel valued, and she not only speaks to but demonstrates a deep care for each of her direct team members of which she supervises. Coming to work every day, I feel grateful for being part of such a great team!"
A strategic redevelopment project, the MFP was designed to transform health care in Troy, Rensselaer County, and the surrounding communities. The comprehensive plan includes the construction, renovation, and modernization of facilities in Troy, and the transition of Samaritan to the sole provider of inpatient acute care hospital services in Troy, as well as the transition of St. Mary’s to an outpatient campus. Many of the plan’s major components have been completed, including: a new 570-car parking garage at the Samaritan campus; the relocation and opening of the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing at St. Mary’s; the new St. Mary’s Hospital Hildegard Medicus Cancer Center; the new Women’s Imaging Center at St. Mary’s Hospital; and the new Samaritan Hospital Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Progressive Care Unit. The Heinrich Medicus Pavilion, for which SPHP broke ground in November 2015, is expected to be completed this summer.
St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP) on June 19 held a dedication and open house to celebrate the new fourth floor medical/surgical unit at Samaritan Hospital. For patients, the new state-of-the-art unit features larger patient rooms, which were designed to provide a more comfortable and healing experience. For physicians, nurses, and technicians, the new unit’s advanced equipment and thoughtful design offers an ideal setting in which to provide the highest quality and most compassionate patient-centered care. Development of the new med/surg unit was informed by the input and feedback of providers and nurses who work in the unit. The new unit is set to begin accepting patients on June 26. “As beautiful as this new facility is, the most special features of the unit are the people who work here, and the high level of care they provide for our patients,” said Norman Dascher Jr., president of Samaritan Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.
