On todays team spotlight... introducing Stuart! Stuart has been with Sunrise for a whole 10 years! He works as an employment specialist in our Community Trades & Careers program. Stuart states the following about his time here at Sunrise... "For me one of the most favorite things about working for Sunrise is the trust that I am given. Being a good Employment Specialist is a hard job because you are in the public and there is still quite a mindset of the word “no” to people with mental illness, which challenges us every day, but knowing the company believes in you day after day helps me push forward." Did you know that Sunrise Services has been in business for over 45 years? We owe our vision and our passion to the leadership and energy of Gene and Sue Closser, the founders of Sunrise Services. In the mid 1970s, Sue and Gene worked at an institution in Colorado. They believed there was a better way to provide care services and sought to open a facility for people with disabilities. They moved to a state that was much more progressive with group homes and caring for those in need – Washington State. On their wedding anniversary on March 1st, 1977, Sue and Gene took over three group homes and thus began a long, storied career of working to care for people with disabilities, seniors in need of care, and individuals living with mental health challenges. Today, Sunrise Services continues to advocate and intervene for those who cannot, enabling better management of complex life situations.
