Staff members from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Eden Medical Center, part of Sutter Health, recently organized a special wedding ceremony with a unique purpose. This celebration wasn't for any of the hospital's staff; instead, it was a heartfelt gesture to honor one of their patients. Ed Dugan, a 77-year-old patient who had been admitted to the ICU for significant respiratory issues just before Thanksgiving, expressed his desire to marry Lucy Becerra, his partner of 37 years. Responding to this heartfelt wish, Eden chaplain Jenifer Ingerman Miller and several members of Dugan's care team collaborated with the couple's family to orchestrate a wedding ceremony within the confines of the ICU. Jonathan Judy-del Rosario, Eden's chief nurse executive, expressed admiration for the care team's holistic approach to meeting patients' needs in the hospital. He remarked, “This is a perfect example of our care teams holistically meeting our patients' needs while they are in the hospital. I am simply amazed at how people came together to make this such a special occasion for Ed and Lucy and their family.” While an ICU may not be the conventional setting for a wedding, the staff's compassion and thoughtfulness were invaluable to a family that might not have otherwise had the opportunity to celebrate such a significant milestone together. For the hospital staff involved, it offered a chance to recognize their patient as an individual beyond the hospital care setting.

Renowned journalists and health reporters, representing major media outlets such as Reuters, Bloomberg, Xinhua News Agency, and Agence France-Presse, convened today with senior members and physicians at Sutter's California Pacific Medical Center. The press members, who are currently in town covering the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference, were granted an exclusive opportunity to explore Sutter's CPMC, a premier hospital in San Francisco. During the event, media representatives were provided with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the hospital's expansive operating unit. They received detailed information about the overall activities of the medical center and were introduced to numerous cutting-edge technologies and innovations implemented within its facilities. The group was also given a firsthand look at Sutter CPMC's preparations for mass casualty events, particularly earthquakes. This included a comprehensive overview of how Sutter Health's supply chain team employs a "tiger team" approach, ensuring constant readiness. This approach helps guarantee that every care facility and medical foundation under Sutter Health across Northern California is well-equipped with necessary supplies and personal protective equipment. Additionally, the team proactively seeks approved alternatives well in advance of any potential supply disruptions.
