On this day 50 years ago, in the Board of Trade Building in Chicago's financial district, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) was founded as well as its wholly owned subsidiary, CBOE Clearing Corp. — the predecessor to OCC. CBOE was the first U.S. exchange to trade listed options. On opening day, trading in options on 16 stocks began, and 911 total call options contracts were traded.

Colleagues recently volunteered at a Chicago Scholars New Scholar Selection Day event, sponsored by OCC. This was a unique opportunity to engage with the next generation of young Chicago leaders. Volunteers interviewed Chicago Scholars Class of 2028 applicants, who are first-generation high school students from local under-resourced communities. These interviews are a key component of the Chicago Scholars admissions process, allowing volunteers to get to know the applicants and evaluate their program readiness.

OCC's year-to-date average daily volume through March 2023 was 46.3M contracts, up 8.4% compared to YTD ADV through March 2022. Total volume was 1.1B contracts, up 12.2% compared to March 2022. March 2023 was the highest total volume month in OCC’s history and the first time cleared contract volume surpassed 1B contracts in a single month.

Total volume was 923.2 million contracts, up 2.9 percent compared to January 2022 and the third highest month in OCC’s history.
