UNC Carolina Air Care made their first landing at UNC Health Rex Holly Springs on Oct. 12 as part of a ribbon cutting ceremony! Teammates on campus were excited to take a break from training and hospital preparations to watch the helicopter land. Kevin Christie, HCS Desktop Support Specialist, shared “The associates in the picture are just a few of a group of about 12 teammates who worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to get everything related to IT installed at UNC Health Rex Holly Springs. It was a wonderful time to finally take a break and see the helicopter land. We’re excited to relaunch our UNC Health Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP)! The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program involves 144 hours of online virtual learning, plus over 2,000 hours of on-the-job training. Participants will be paid for time while training/working in one of our outpatient clinics. MAAP program leaders will interview, hire and train applicants with or without prior health care experience. Medical assistant apprentices will then be assigned Mentor(s)/Care Partner Champions and a Nurse Educator to guide them throughout the program. Upon program completion, apprentices are required to take the NHA Medical Assistant credentialing/certification exam. Once a medical assistant certification is obtained, the apprentice will be offered a job interview with UNC Health Outpatient Services!

The per diem Cardiovascular Specialist will assist doctors in the treatment of cardiac disease and will monitor and perform tests on patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures. The per diem Cardiovascular Sonographer will employ radiologic sciences technology to perform a variety of patient care, technical, and diagnostic tasks targeted to the care of patients with cardiovascular disease. Major tasks include ultrasound imaging, patient preparation, and post-procedure care, procedure room set-up and cleaning, technical reporting, and quality monitoring.
