Scott Cody Joins Westat as Human Services Sector Lead Scott Cody, MPP, currently a Senior Vice President with Westat Insight, will join Westat as the Sector Lead for Human Services on January 1, 2023. He will oversee the company’s Social Policy and Economics, and Education Studies practice areas. Mr. Cody is an experienced leader as well as a nationally recognized expert in evidence-based decisionmaking. With 30 years of experience in research and evaluation, he brings both subject matter and methodological expertise to Westat. Mr. Cody is best known for his innovative approaches to program evaluation and program improvement, and is acclaimed for his ability to translate complex evidence into clear, actionable intelligence. He brings expertise in federal food and nutrition and education programs.
Westat on Forbes America’s Best Midsize Employers List for 2022 Westat has been ranked #97 out of 500 employers by Forbes as one of America's Best Mid-Size Employers for 2022. This list is based on an independent survey taken by approximately 60,000 American employees working for companies with 1,000+ workers in the United States. In total, 1,000 employers were recognized across 25 different industry sectors. The list is divided into 2 rankings: 500 large and 500 midsize employers. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from respondents who were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employer to friends and family. Their evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out either positively or negatively. “Being recognized by our employees for this honor reflects their dedication to their work and celebrates the collaborative culture that is unique to Westat,” notes Westat’s President and CEO Scott Royal, Ph.D.
Westat on Forbes 2021 Best Employers for Veterans Westat is listed on the Forbes 2021 Best Employers for Veterans. Employers are chosen based on an independent survey from a sample of 5,000 U.S. veterans working for companies employing at least 1,000 people in their U.S. operations. Veterans were asked to rate their employers on a variety of general and veteran-specific topics. Out of the thousands of companies eligible for this recognition, only 200 are being recognized. “We are extremely honored to be recognized by our employees in this category,” notes Suzanne Osborn, MBA, Vice President of Westat’s Human Resource Services. “Westat’s corporate culture is based on collaboration and team-based interaction. Westat on Bethesda Magazine’s 2021 Top Places to Work Westat has earned the distinction of being ranked as one of Bethesda Magazine’s Top Places to Work 2021.The award identifies and recognizes the best employers in Montgomery County, Maryland, and Upper Northwest, DC, benefiting the area’s economy, workforce, and businesses. Winners are recognized in the November/December issue of Bethesda Magazine. Rankings were determined using combined scores of a 2-part survey process. Part 1 was an evaluation of each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics. Part 2 was an employee survey to measure the employee experience. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process for Bethesda Magazine, analyzed the data, and determined the final rankings.
Two Westat statisticians have been appointed Senior Statistical Fellows: Jill DeMatteis, Ph.D., and Tom Krenzke. The honor comes in recognition of their many contributions to the field. They will serve on the Statistical Fellows Committee, which provides consultation on important survey statistics issues and addresses recent advances in applied statistics. Jean Opsomer, Ph.D., Vice President, is appointed to co-chair the committee replacing Graham Kalton, Ph.D., who will remain on the committee as a Nonresident Senior Statistical Fellow. J. The Westat Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Scott Royal, Ph.D., who has served as President since November 2017, is appointed President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective March 16, 2020, replacing CEO James E. Smith, Ph.D., who will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Scott has brought strong leadership, management, and business development acumen to our company,” said Dr. Smith. “He is well positioned to lead Westat as we continue to address our clients’ needs and apply our expertise to new opportunities in the years ahead.” Dr. Royal holds a doctorate and master’s degree from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. The survey was conducted by statistics portal Statista. The surveys were administered in a series of anonymous online panels and provide a representative sample of the U.S. workforce.
