September is a busy month at WoodmenLife! Service to Others, isn't just a value, it's who we are! September is Hunger Action Month. Did you know that 37 million of our neighbors struggle with hunger? That’s about 1 in 10 Americans. Those statistics from Feeding America are one of the reasons WoodmenLife made fighting hunger our National Community Focus in 2015. WoodmenLife recognizes the hard work WoodmenLife associates put in throughout the year by compressing the work week into 4.5 working days, which allows for the business to close at noon on Fridays. Now that summer is officially upon us, WoodmenLife urges each associate to take time to unplug, rest and recharge. We call it FriYay!!!!
One of WoodmenLife’s most closely held values is Service to Others. Over these last couple of years, we have found ways to connect despite many obstacles. However, we miss the ability to be out in our towns and cities physically volunteering. We are excited to announce that WoodmenLife’s WeCare Volunteer teams are back in service! In the Omaha Metro, WoodmenLife partners with eight incredible charities: the Boys and Girls Club, Eastern Nebraska’s Veterans Home, Food Bank for the Heartland, Habitat for Humanity, Keep Omaha Beautiful, Meals on Wheels, Open Door Mission, and Wakonda Elementary. Service to Others – We care deeply about our communities and our country. WoodmenLife helps our members give back to the places they call home. We are there for them when they need us most.
June is a very special month! WoodmenLife was founded on June 6, 1890, in a small hotel room in downtown Omaha by Joseph Cullen Root. His vision was simple: “Make life insurance available to everyone.” “Everyone” is the key word. WoodmenLife continues to be humbled by the extraordinary organization we’ve become these last 132 years. On June 14, WoodmenLife will also celebrate National Flag Day. Because we value our American freedoms, just like you, we continue to show our patriotic spirit every day and have presented more than 3.5 million flags to nonprofit organizations, schools and communities nationwide. WoodmenLife is also getting ready for Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery by marking the day enslaved people in Texas learned they were free. WoodmenLife is a proud sponsor of Juneteenth events, including two Omaha-metro events on June 18. June is also LGBT+ Pride month, a time to recognize the impact LGBT+. We are proud to celebrate these important June events representing “everyone” and our values, including Inclusion and Service to Others.
Living our value – Service to Others. “We care deeply about our communities and our country. We give back to our members and the places they call home. We are there for people when they need us most.” Every year, WoodmenLife participates in the Greater Omaha Area Heart & Stroke Walk to raise money to aid in the education and prevention of heart attacks and strokes. This year, WoodmenLife raised thousands of dollars for the American Heart Association’s cause to promote cardiovascular health. We can all do something small to improve our personal health and the health of others each day. See you on May 14 as we walk together to support heart health!
A message from President & CEO Patrick L. Dees April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the diversity surrounding us all. Every day at WoodmenLife® is a day to not only celebrate, but also honor diversity. With that, we also celebrate and honor Inclusion, one of our values as an organization. “We are for everyone. Inclusion means all.” This means every member, every associate in the Home Office, and across the country, and every person on our Sales Force. We all have a story that celebrates our diversity and inclusion. WoodmenLife takes pride in our values, especially Inclusion. We value our differences and respect what each of us bring to the table. We are committed to diversity and to providing opportunities for growth, leadership and service to all. With a WoodmenLife career, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference every day. Our life insurance helps protect the financial futures of families, and we give back to the local communities we serve. We also give you room to grow by encouraging and awarding innovation.
A message from President & CEO Patrick L. Dees As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop and evolve, I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that WoodmenLife remains financially strong and ready to serve you. From the early stages of the crisis, we took steps to stay strong and protect our members, associates in the Home Office and across the country and Sales Force. We have implemented a number of changes to help ensure everyone’s safety. We have transitioned the majority of our associates to remote work – everyone who can work at home is doing so. Business travel and vendor visits have been canceled to keep those who remain in our offices safe. We have provided income support and ongoing stipends to associates to help ease any financial burdens they are incurring due to the pandemic. We adjusted our health plan for associates to increase access to prescription medication and telehealth services, and remove the copay for COVID-19 testing. We did these things to take care of our team so they can continue to take care of you.
