This is the reason why I cannot leave Cisco. Having the ability to work remote makes it 10X easier for a busy household consisting of both parents who work each day and kids at completely different stages of life and completely separate schools.

There is a "work from home" policy, but it is available capriciously depending on the department, mood of manager, etc. Also, some employees abuse it.

Too many people working from home creates a lack of environment. Some groups will let you work from home full time some groups want you in the office more.
