Bonuses in the old days used to be amazing (from what I hear). Since the slow decline in sales / revenue thanks to the awesome decisions to go with Windows as an operating system bonuses and raises pretty much dried up.

Unfortunately, it was primarily based on the company's overall sales performance, not your personal performance. Even if you were rated Outstanding, you might get little to nothing if the company did not have good sales revenue that year/semi-annual accounting period.
