The pension plan is very good for the employees.

They have a fully funded plan

I would much rather they contribute the money they put into the pension to a 401k instead. In today's world a pension is just a form of golden handcuffs.

Only good if you want to stay 25 years

Our Pension Plan seems financially solid, and that is comforting to know. I hope that's the case because within the next 4 - 6 years I plan on retiring and begin collecting pension. That being said, my monthly pension check will be about $1500/month. I had no idea how in the world I will pay my bills on that amount of money. I will be a 25+ year employee by the time I retire and that's how much my pension check will be? Not cool at all.

I was fortunate to get a pension. It's my understanding this is not an option for newer employees.

They have a pension and you're vested after 5 years.
