Matching is offered now but its impossible, not hard, impossible to remove money while you are in service. You may only take loans with serious limitations. Fund choices are sparse as well.

This is optional as with most jobs but paying into the thrift savings plan pays off I forget how much they match but over time it’s a decent amount.

The Thrift Savings Plan is the government version of 401k. Recently (part of Blended Retirement) they began a limited matching program. The funds seem to be managed fairly well and are competitive with many civilian funds.
