They have a profit sharing program that is awesome. At worst they match you dollar for dollar. Some times it is even more.

It is highly encouraged to participate and with good reason. Company match has been good historically during years of good profits. Recently it has lowered to standard contributions. Before participating, you may want to explore all your other options. 401k plans are a bit overrated in general. Companies like Walgreens encourages it and mentions all the positives but never really educates anyone as to the negative particulars, for example the returns on the life of your account, the actual fees associated with transactions, the opportunity costs, inflation & tax implications later on down the rode when you retire, etc. I reluctantly give 4 stars because I was able to save quite a bit of money using this program in my short amount of time with Walgreens. I had to do a lot of research to find more info as to the real costs of 401k plans and would give the program 5 stars if Walgreens did a better job of educating their employees.

Pretty good, low initial amount to get match, but the match has been trending down the last few years.

Used to be better, but still better than a lot of companies out there. Matches 1:1 up to 4%
