Would you take a paycut to join visa ?
Interviewing with a company that has an optional payroll deduction for a coworker relief fund. Has anyone else seen this? It sounds like a good cause, but not sure I would want to contribute
I just got offered $110k USD to relocate to Amsterdam, and the local expat tax breaks make the math look incredibly tempting. It’s a significant drop from my current US salary, but the company keeps pushing the quality of life, European healthcare, and 30 days of vacation narrative. I’m trying to balance the financial hit of losing US-tier compensation against the lifestyle upgrade of a walkable city and real worker protections. Has anyone made the US-to-Europe jump recently? How are you feeling about it?
Is $95k enough to comfortably survive as a mid-level QA Engineer in Chicago, or am I going to be roommate-dependent forever? I’m trying to transition out of a fully remote role into a hybrid one, and this is the first solid offer I've landed in months. What does a realistic mid-level budget look like in Chicago right now?
My employer doesn't offer the most competitive salary but they offer tuition reimbursement and I could get my masters at no cost if I go slowly. Is it worth staying and getting the masters or jumping ship if I could get an increase of 20%?
I’m looking at an offer for $135k in Atlanta, but the company wants me on a strict 4-day RTO schedule. On paper, $135k goes a long way in the South, but the office is located right in the worst part of the Midtown traffic gridlock. I calculated that I’d be losing at least 10 hours a week just sitting on I-85, not to mention parking costs and wear-and-tear. Does a lower cost-of-living salary lose its value the moment you’re forced back into a soul-crushing daily commute?
This really depends on what company you’re coming from and if you feel like the brand-name will help you get other opportunities in the future.
Mastercard to Visa
Depends if it’s contract or salary, office location, and how much of a cut
What % pay cut is this?
Nope and I know this for a fact because I didn’t. It was about maybe three years ago. They kept saying they could meet my number as long as they could get a title bump approved. Basically they posted it as a Dir and they would need to get into the Sr. Dir band. They were able to get the title bump but then came back with lass than I was making and I passed. I felt a little bad because I had an internal referral but then he left Visa within a year.
How much of a paycut? Where are you trying to go with your career?
