Telephone interview lasting about half an hour. Interviewer was very friendly, chatted mainly about my experience and the role i was interviewing for. Asked some questions about unix such as what was the first line in a bash script, how could you tell what shell you were using. Also asked some SQL questions - difference between delete and truncate, join statements.
I progressed to next and final stage which was a 4 hour session on site. Written test was fine, HR had told me the topics that would be covered which included SQL, white box and black box testing, java, unix, web services testing. The test itself was easy, given snippets of code and asked how you'd test it, list test data youu'd use etc. SQL was simple join statements, java questions were also just snippets of code and asked to refactor it using more up to date techniques. Some questions on Maps also.
The three hours of interviews were fine - technical questions around SQL, selenium, fitnesse, unix, general questions about testing and just chatting about my experience. HR interview was fine and so was manager interview - basically gauging how I'd fit in to their culture and the questions were mainly "Tell me a time when X happened to you and what do you did to resolve it " etc.
I was provisionally offered the job pending approval by their office in the U.S. . I was then told a week later that an internal candidate expressed interest in the role and they were allowing him to apply, even though they had made me an offer. After interviewing him, they compared both our applications and technical tests and decided to not hire either of us.
Overall, the interviewers and HR staff were very friendly but they didn't keep me up to date with the situation, it took two weeks after I was made the provisional offer for them to tell me that they weren't hiring anyone. And It was frustrating to be offered a job and then have that offer revoked!
