I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Alvarez & Marsal (London, England) in Jul 2018
Interview
1. A few informal interviews over coffee, and then HR asked to begin a formal interview process. Very instructive to gain inside information on the firm and understand how it is organized.
2. HR screening. Nice conversation around why A&M, why leaving current job, past experiences, etc...
3. Online tests through SHL. Four of them: Numerical, verbal, excel and powerpoint. The excel and powerpoint are surprisingly hard because of their format - theoreticals and focusing on functions no one really uses in real life.
4. Written case study: given 2 hours to prepare a powerpoint to answer a few questions using a series of documents, emails, and a few Excel spreadsheet. Followed by a 1 hour discussion around the case and potential next steps. Very enjoyable, interesting case and quite nice interviewer in my case. Followed again by a 1h fit interview with a senior director.
5. Confirmatory interviews with two managing directors (business unit leaders) and a HR. Fit interview with the two MDs, negociation & numbers with HR.
There's a clear tendency to ask people to take a step down when they join so one needs to make sure that this point is clarified early on in the process. The compensation structure is good so not so much negotiation on this.
