You have the choice to fly in the day of or the day before, I chose to fly in the day before so that I could spend all day preparing for the interview then I could get a good nights rest, breakfast and then I could spend a lot of time getting ready. Please get there early! In the airline industry if you’re early your on time and if you’re on time you’re late! So if your interview is at 2, your goal should be to get there by 1!
As soon as you get there, start mingling right away! Please be social, introduce yourself to everyone, and be encouraging. This was difficult for me because I am very shy but the goal is to NOT be a wallflower. If you see people keeping to themselves, strike up a conversation with them and calm their nerves.
After they check for your passports, you will do a short writing assessment in regards to a difficult situation that a flight attendant may face. I thought it was pretty easy. You’re placed in groups for a fun group activity. Again, be encouraging! You can take the lead but don’t be over bearing. I noticed that no one was writing ideas down so I decided to ask the group if I could be the writer. It’s better to present as a group than to choose a speaker. The recruiters with clipboards may be intimidating but as long as you’re a team player with great ideas then you should be good. After the activity, the recruiters ask you one question based on a situation that you may have faced in customer service and how you responded. Give a detailed answer but please get to the point! Don’t ramble too much. Make eye contact.
As they are selecting people for a one-on-one, you will have the opportunity to ask the recruiters questions about the job. Please be involved in the conversations so that the recruiters are well aware of the fact that you are interested. This is not “a break”. Do not grab your phone and start texting people. Stay in the moment and get to know your recruiters.
The recruiter that I spoke to In my one-on-one was amazing. It was just like talking to a friend. She wanted me to talk about myself and what I like to do for fun then she wanted to know about how I deal with stress in the work place. In a flight attendant interview, it’s important to discuss not just customer service but customer care. For instance, have you ever had to help a customer out that was sick? In the one-on-one, you also get to discuss the transition of becoming a flight attendant, can you adjust to commuting? Ect. Be yourself, be sweet and be professional and then you have every opportunity for success!
