Lack of clarity shown by the hiring team as to what they want and how the hiring process is supposed to be.
The recruiter reached out on LinkedIn months after I had applied for the role (during the summer, sometime I had applied and honestly had forgotten about it). Vague explanation on why or what happened to the person who was previously hired for the role, just that it is being reposted and they are looking for a new candidate.
After I wrapped up the first round, it was first mentioned there will be two more rounds, one with the hiring manager and another with the head of analytics, and that's about it.
However, I received the interview invite with both of them on the call; more than an interview, it was a conversational round where it seemed they wanted to learn more about my project management skills than the actual experimentation experience of research, analysis, and implementation.
I was made aware of the fact that they are also a bit unsure about what the role looks like (a bit weird since they already had hired someone before). I also realized this wasn't full-end CRO and strategy, but more on the project management side, where others would throw their ideas at me and I needed to create a roadmap and run with it, which wasn't something I was looking for.
Following the interview, they mentioned they are still deciding they may have another round but are unsure.
Anyway, I had time to think; after that, I wasn't interested in the role, so I didn't follow up. A few weeks later I received a rejection email from HR mentioning it was a close competition and they had done intensive assessment and decided to move forward with someone else. Although I was not interested, I wasn't sure which assessment they were talking about. Clearly showed they had a script they are following and neither have any clarity about the candidates they are interviewing nor have a process in place about such roles.
I included all of this in my response as well as feedback about their hiring process. Hopefully they implement some learnings next time.
So keep an eye, other CRO peeps. This is a pattern these days: companies want to do CRO but have little to no idea how and learn from multiple candidates and then decide if it is their cup of tea or not.
And similar to a review I saw just before this, yes, they reposted the role again. Quite confused! But good riddance!
