I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ashley Furniture in Oct 2009
Interview
First had a phone interview HR person very pleasant. Was called in for interview by hiring manager at a local store one on one. We sat at a kitchen table on the floor while she interviewed me and customers were walking around. She ignored them while she talked to me. She was pleasant but explained that they did not hire store managers, but I had to work on the floor as a sales person and if I didn't make my sales goal I would be terminated. She stressed about being termed and I felt that they were looking more for sales associates even though the website said hiring managers ,which I had experience in. The stores are owned by different owners so I dont know if my experience was unique. A week later I recd a rejection letter.

Interview
Very laid back ask a lot of how would you go about hitting KPI as well as hiring professionals and leading a team of sales goal individuals. And ask about my selling techniques
The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Ashley Furniture in Aug 2018
Interview
Called within several days of applying. Interview with manager went very well. He told me he would contact his district manager. Called me back several days later and asked if I could meet with him. Said his supervisor trusted his judgement to make a hiring decision. Conversation immediately became about commission sales, not management.
I left without accepting an offer.
When I had time to think about it, I couldn’t get away from the possibility that my age was the issue. Felt I was being steered away from a management role based solely on a perception that I was just too old to be an effective manager.
