Sr. Recruiter and I mean senior, trust me, schedules time for a screening. Sr. Recruiter does not review my resume before the actual meeting. In the meeting, he berates my experience and gaps in it, for a meeting I did not schedule, but I go along with it. I'm a foreign national and I work as a contractor. When companies get bought out, contractors are the first to get the boot. Not everyone's resume is perfect.
I ask him about the conflicting salary ranges posted for the position on two different websites, to which he mumbles something or the other, in response. He then asks me for my range. I spit out a number and he immediately agrees. This was a huge red flag, in retrospect. Here's why - if you google this position, you get conflicting salary ranges on different job portals. One might say 160k-180k base and another might say 130k-143k. HUGE RED FLAG!
This position is really that of Principal Software Engineer since they report directly to the Director and since expectations are that this person will be laying the foundation for their service mesh of cloud native micro-services for pennies on the dollar. Note that this is a greenfield project, so this position is absolutely CRITICAL. They are willing to penny pinch, here.
Don't let the min 5 YOE fool you. They're shortchanging the title so they don't have to shell out a decent salary. Industry standards for this type of work is 170k+ but they're offering 143k on Indeed and other portals. On some portals I've seen it as low as 120k.
I can tell you right now, if this is how they're sourcing talent, they will fail and their "Digital Marketplace" will never come to fruition.
