The job was supposed to be M-F, 9-5. During the interview the regional manager told me it would be 8 - 5 since I would have one hour unpaid lunch. Most of these places with one hour unpaid lunch know darn well you are going to end up working half-way thru lunch. Seriously are you supposed to just abandon the patient at 12 noon on the dot? Oops sorry you came 15 minutes late, you're done now! And forget about all the staff meetings they love to have during lunch! Most places, if they still do one hour lunch breaks, do half hour paid, half hour unpaid to account for patient's that run late or required staff meetings during lunch. The manager gave me a two minute tour of the facility and we sat down to talk.
Then he asked if I would work 2 nights a week til closing, I said OK. He said productivity expectations where 16 patients a day. I said treatments, right? (Therapists usually get 30 minutes for each treatment and 45-60 minutes for each evaluation). He answered 'both'. I asked how many evals a day do you expect? he said up to 8! I figured I had spent so much time interviewing on the phone with the recruiter and him, waiting for him (he was one and a half hours late to the interview) and now actually interviewing that I might as well hear what the offer was. End of in person interview. He thanked me for coming and said have a good day. After getting there half an hour early, and waiting 90 minutes for him, the interview was over in 10 minutes.
Next day he called me directly and asked if I would also work Saturday half day...I said ok, but I would like 2 days in a row off so how about Sun and Monday. He said it would be better if I just took off 2 hours during lunch 4 days a week so I wouldn't go over the 40 hours! I did not agree to that but did agree to working Sat with the 2 day off in a row stipulation. He said ok, fine, I'll get back to you. I called the private recruiter and told her how the interview went and the follow-up call (but no concrete offer).
A few days after that (again NO offer), he called to ask if I would cover TWO facilities about 15-20 minutes apart from each other. The way he explained it, I could just do the mornings at one place, then drive over to the other place during my lunch hour. I told him that I would prefer 2 full days at one location and 3 days at the other. He said fine, he would work it out.
A day or two after that (!) he called to ask if I would also do pool therapy!!! Not on a set schedule, just as needed (so I could have 3 patients in the gym and be expected to wrap up with them and then jump into a bathing suit and get in the pool with a patient and then help the patient out when done, jump back into my clothes and hustle back to the gym! I said that's an absolute no go! He said ok, we'll be contacting your recruiter for follow-up. Still no mention of an offer.
A day or two later, the recruiter called and said she had the offer in hand and would send it to me. I got it as an email attachment -- with 15 + years experience -- they offered me $68K!!! I told the recruiter that was an absolute insult. She wanted to negotiate the salary, I said forget it, this company is a complete waste of time. She called the regional manager against my wishes and he upped it to $71K...which I again refused.
