I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Canon U.S.A. (New Hyde Park, NY) in Jun 2011
Interview
Three interviews, that went smoothly with a variety of stakeholder staff. Relevant questions were asked, no gotchas or anything like that. All very professional. There is a background check, and then some room for salary negotiation depending upon how badly you are wanted. Advice is to make sure your resume has many accomplishments listed in your past roles, not just what your responsibilities were. Interview the company to make sure you can be happy at Canon.
The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Canon U.S.A. in Jan 2009
Interview
Applied via the web, and at first had a phone interview that lasted over 30 minutes. Questions asked were those typical of verifying what you stated on your resume.
Received another call days later to then set up an in person interview with the HR manager.
After successfully passing that, finally I was able to meet with the hiring manager, who after our in depth discussion, obviously did not have the hiring authority unless the Japanese contingent concurred.
That led to a final interview days later with the hiring manager, the person I was replacing and the Japanese representative of the organization.
Items discussed were past experience, what can you bring to the table, non-compete agreements etc.
